What this site is, why it exists, and who built it.

What is Traffic.Media?

Traffic.Media is an independent editorial project — an attempt to build a single, coherent reference for one of the most universal concepts in modern life: traffic.

Not just road traffic. Every kind. Digital traffic, network traffic, air and maritime routes, and the cultural life of flow and congestion. The word appears in every domain of human activity, yet no single resource had tried to map it all in one place.

This site does.

Five Domains

Traffic.Media is organised into five content pillars, each exploring a distinct manifestation of traffic: Digital, Physical, Network, Air & Maritime, and Media & Culture. Each pillar contains original writing, data visualisations, and a glossary of terms specific to that domain.

Who built it?

Traffic.Media is an independent project. It is built, written, and maintained by a single developer and editor with a background in mapping, data visualisation, and transport infrastructure. The interactive visualisations throughout the site are built from scratch using Canvas and vanilla JavaScript — no charting libraries.

Tools & technology

The site is built with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no frameworks, no build pipeline. Hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Analytics via Umami (cookieless, privacy-first). Typography uses DM Serif Display and DM Sans from Google Fonts.
